This seems to be a major problem in New Haven (or at least in the East Rock area). I have see the same thing happen in other parts of East Rock, where school crossing guards are located and where they are not. Crosswalks are simply not respected by drivers here. Just yesterday, as another guy and I tried to cross Orange from Pearl, a man in a black car stopped to let us go. But just as we took a few steps into the crosswalk, he took off, nearly hitting us in the crosswalk. He was obviously just being a jerk, but he exemplifies the type of conduct that so many drivers have when it comes to crosswalks and safety guards here. When are the police ever going to do anything about this type of reckless driving?
